Keel is the head of SEELE which is the corporation that sits above
NERV. Keel's past is a mystery but it is known that his body is at
least half cybernetic. Whether or not this gives any insight into his
history is unknown at the present time. Also, there is no proof
whatsoever that Keel Lorenz is the fabled "Wandering Jew" if for no
other reason, because we see a young Keel in the episode 21 flashbacks
and the "Wandering Jew" is not supposed to age.
Also, the story of the "Wandering Jew" is little more than a piece of anti-Semitic propaganda.

Сразу после выхода \"EoE\" в фановой среде появилась мысль, что Синдзи,
став Богом, воссоздают из океана идеальную женщину, сочетающую в себе
черты Аски, Мисато и Рей. Основной аргумент - цвет глаз Аски - серый. В

Есть и более яркое доказательство. Синдзи в самом конце ЕоЕ
отвергает Комплементацию (это ГЛАВНОЕ сюжетное отличие NGE от EoE) и
уже не контролирует то, что происходит. Он НЕ становится Богом, а
остается простым мальчиком. В то же время Юй говорит, что любой после
комплиментации может отвергнуть её и вернуться в своё тело. (Нечто
аналогичное, только в локальных масштабах произошло с Синдзи после
растворения в Еве-00 - есть показательная сцена, где образы Мисато,
Аски и Рей намекают ему на слияние). Аска просто одна из этих людей.
Она ОБРЕТАЕТ (точнее возвращает) почти утраченную волю к жизни. А
человек с желанием жить (см. рассуждения Мисато после того, как Синдзи
прихлопнул Каору) будет жить. Имеется в виду жизнь как существование в
отдельном теле. Так вот, обычный мальчик не сможет сам слепить, что ему
взбредет в голову, тем более собрать \"комбинацию разных людей\"...
Есть более радикальная версия по этому вопросу. Аска не погибла в
принципе. Была уничтожена только Ева-02, но не капсула, которая смогла
сохранить её во время разрушения АТ-полей людей. Рассуждения о том, что
Аска была полностью засинхронизирована с Евой и получила эквивалентные
повреждения наивны - в битве с Зеруэлем Ева-02 теряет конечности и
голову, Аска испытывает боль, но её конечности на месте. Не исключено,
что душа Евы-02 перед смертью сама отключает нервные соединения, чтобы
её дочь не погибла от болевого шока. Ну а далее все просто - пока
рушится мир, Аска перебинтовывает себя в капсуле...

This perposterous theory has been around for a while now, but it was
never as popular as it is now. Asuka's eyes are blue, not brown, at the
end of the film.
Her eye is clearly blue (somewhat greyish, but this is because of the
color tones/lighting of the scene - it is night afterall).
And further, no - the person on the shore with Shinji is Asuka and
Asuka only. Shinji rejected Human Complementation Project, and as such
he has no control over whatever happens next. He is an ordinary boy.
Yui says that anyone who can "imagine themselves in their own hear" can
come back, on their own. Apparently, Asuka is one of those people. A
person with the will to live. A combination of people is impossible
outside of the Complementation project that Shinji rejected.

второй, третий либо младший сын в семье. (это естественно для японской
культуры, но в последнее время тенденция сокращается в связи с низким
уровнем рождаемости: меньше чем 1,5 ребенка на семейную пару, 70 %
молодых японцев являются старшими / единственными детьми в семье)
4. жених хочет разорвать все связи со своей прошлой жизнью и
начать все \"с чистого листа\". (тоже редкость, хотя возможно именно по
этой причине Гендо сменил фамилию). Интересный факт касательно японской
системы законов: если человек меняет фамилию, то все его далги

Gendou married into his wife's family, taking up her family's name
instead of vice versa. This sometime happens in Japanese society and
especially if the wife's family is of a higher social standing or
wealthier than the husband's ("Gyaku Tama no Koshi" (marry a woman of
wealth)). Another situation is when the wife has no brothers to carry
on the family name.

Well, this is also one reason, but the Japanese that are that
interested in status (caste), are a rather small group at the top.
Also, the family has the status, not the male or the female.
First, let me state that when a Japanese couple gets married, one or
the other 'must' adopt the family name of the other. While currently
the subject of much debate, there is no system where the wife (or
husband as the case may be) gets to keep her (his) old name.
Next, there are a number of reasons why a man would take his wife's family name, including:
1. The status issue indicated above. (rare)
2. The wife's family name is 'better' or 'luckier'. (also rare)
3. The wife's family had no sons and the wife is either the eldest
daughter, or the daughter that will take over the household upon her
parent's death. In this case, the husband is usually the second, third
or later son in his family. (This is quite common, but has been running
into problems lately due to Japan's extremely low birthrate: with less
than 1.5 kids per couple, currently 70% of all younger Japanese are the
eldest or only child.)
4. The husband wants to erase all ties with his former life and 'start
over'. (Although rare, this is probably the reason I would choose for
Gendo.) An interesting tidbit regarding Japan's legal system: If a
person changes their name, obligations on the previous name (debts,
etc.) become extremely difficult to collect on. It is as if the
previous person has ceased to exist and a new person has been created.
For this reason it is sometimes done for symbolic purposes - ie: to
emphasize a new start.
I'm sure there are also other reasons, but I can't think of any off the
top of my head. (Incidentally, when a Japanese person marries a
foreigner, they get to choose whether or not to change their name -
because the foreigner doesn't have a family register in Japan.)

Gendo more than likely entered into Human Complement Project just like everyone.
The scene of the film with Gendo being bitten in half by a ghost/demon
Eva-01 is too surreal to be reality. Rei is a part of Lilith. Yui is
dead and her soul is in Eva-01, Kaworu is dead. Eva-01 is in orbit
around the earth. None of those people could actually be there with
Gendo. Therefore, they are a figment of Human Complement Project and of
Gendo's mind. Either this scene is of Gendo already being Complemented
or Gendo's method of reversion to LCL is simply more violent and guilt
ridden than others. Either way, Gendo is to be Complemented.
Gendo was reverted to LCL and became part of the whole with everyone
else. As the Cardass Masters Card says, "All life was drawn
indiscriminately into the world desired by the medium/avatar Shinji."
With Shinji's request, "I wish everyone would just die.", the anti AT
Field spread from Lilith. It was an "indiscriminate" effect that bound
everyone together at Shinji's will. All life was to become one, Gendo
included.

In a very real sense, Kaworu is to SEELE what Rei is to NERV - that is: a tool for their own ends.
Kaworu is a cloned body (albino - pale skin/hair, red eyes) with the soul of a Source of Life (Adam).
Rei is a cloned body (albino - pale skin/hair, red eyes) with the soul of a Source of Life (Lilith).
This is why Kaworu tells her "You're just like me.." They both have
human/Lilim forms, but their souls are that of Sources of Life who gave
birth to Angels and Lilim, respectively.

The AD Vision edition spells his name "Kaoru", partly because it is
spelt that way in the animation of 25. The following text by Patrick
Yip attempts to clear the origin of the name.

I was flipping through the old Japanese classics "Genji Monogatari"
(Tale of Genji) the other day. It's been quite some time since I looked
at the final part of this monumental work, and I found that the name of
the hero in this part of the story is "Kaworu"!!
I did some more research on this name. These are the facts about "Kaworu" that I find out:
- The reason why "Kaworu" is written with a "wo" character is probably
influenced by classics work like "Genji Monogatari". In the Heian ages
and medieval period, "wo" and "o" were quite separate words. At that
time "Kaworu" was indeed written with "wo" character. The two
characters merged in their pronounciation in the Edo period and thus
created the confusion as to why "Kaworu" should have a "wo" character.
It is possible that some Japanese may not even know this, and it has
become common practice to write "Kaoru". This creates more confusion.
- "Kaworu" is a serious but also romantic hero in the last third of the
Tale of Genji. And literally the kanji for "Kaworu" means fagrance (of
incence wood). Indeed in Tale of Genji, Kaworu was born with a very
special bodily feature: His body bore a sweet fagrance smell. So the
name "Kaworu" is commonly related to the idea of intelligent, handsome
and romantic hero.
- And one more striking thing. "Kaworu" can be a girl's name as well!!
This adds to the ambiguity of sex implicated by this name. Put it into
the context that Kaworu is an epitome of shoujo-anime bishounen
(handsome boy) with ambiguous sexuality. Now it seems to me that Gainax
actually put some thought in choosing his name.
- Lastly, it can now become clear that despite "Kaworu"'s Caucasian look, he indeed has a Japanese name.

Yes. Although
Maya looks up to Ritsuko as her "sempai", there was clearly an
intention to portray Maya's feelings towards Ritsuko as something much
more complicated with deliberate gay overtones. When the phantom
Rei/Ritsuko embraces Ritsuko during the film, The End of Evangelion,
Maya lets a gasp of "ecstacy" escape (as described by Anno). Further,
in the Newtype filmbook for End of Evangelion, Maya's final lines
before she reverts to LCL are surrounded by hearts. It's clear that
Gainax intended Maya to be a character with, at the very least,
decisively lesbian tendancies

Yes and no. One brand that Misato drinks is Yebisu, which is definitely
a real beer. However, after complaints by the brewers, in episode 2 the
name was changed to "Yebichu", which may also be a homage to a manga
series, "Oruchuban Yebichu".
According to Carl Horn the brand name was retracted because the TV
network which broadcast the series objected because the brewers of
"Yebisu" did not advertise with them, and didn't want to give the
brewers free publicity!
The other is Boa, which appears to be a homage to the anime film "Sora
Tobu Yuurei Sen" (1969). In this film Boa juice is a highly addictive
and poisonous beverage.

Who/what is Rei?
Rei's body is a clone of Yui, Shinji's mother. Her soul is the soul of the mother of humanity, Lilith.
Apparently, when Shinji's mother was absorbed into Eva-01, they tried
to salvage her, the same way they did with Shinji. This attempt
resulted in multiple bodies being pulled out that resembled Yui. This
was the source of the Rei clones and that's probably what Ritsuko meant
when she said that "all of them were salvaged", in episode 23.
In the redone episode 23, you can see two shots of Eva-01 "connected"
by the torso to Lilith, and the liner notes suggest that it could show
what Eva-01 looked like during Yui's experiment. That would explain why
Lilith's soul ended up in Rei's body.
By the way, "lil" means "spirit" in Sumerian. And "rei" means spirit as well in Japanese.

s Lilith's soul in Rei?
Yes. The most obvious indicator is when Rei returns to Lilith.
There is also the Rei Ayanami passage in the EoE theatrical
program which states: "The First Children, and dedicated pilot of
Eva-00. A young girl who apparently lacks emotions. Her body was
created from the salvaged remains of Yui Ikari after Yui was taken into
the Eva, and numerous Rei clones were then prepared in Terminal Dogma
so that when one Rei dies she can be replaced by another. The present
Rei is the third. The first was killed by Dr. Naoko Akagi, and the
second died in battle against the 16th Angel. Although the
personalities of these three Reis differ from one another, this is due
to environmental factors. Their soul is one and the same, and it
appears to have been that of Lilith. At the final stage of the
Instrumentality Project, Rei betrayed Gendou Ikari, returned to Lilith
of her own judgment and entrusted the future to Gendou's son - Shinji
Ikari. Birth date: unknown."

perfect health while when at NERV she is bandaged from the accident

There is no official answer. I have heard it suggested that it was a
different clone of Rei, but this is highly illogical as there is only
one soul that the Rei clones posses and they cannot all have it at the
same time, and in The End of Evangelion the three clones of Rei (the
ones that were actually "living") stand together during Human
Complement Project. Also, this theory does not explain why Rei seems to
disappear as Shinji glances away for a second.

Before Gendo shoots Ritsuko, in The End fo Evangelion, he says something to her that the audience cannot hear. What did he say?
Speculation abounds over what Gendo's last words to Ritsuko were - and
there's simply no answer. In the original story boards, Gendo's line is
supposed to be covered by the sound of an explosion (from the battle
raging in NERV). While the explosion sound was eventually scrapped,
Anno ensured that Gendo's line indeed drops out so that we cannot hear
it.
Yuriko Yamaguchi, Ritsuko's Japanese voice actress, too wondered
what Gendo had told Ritsuko. But for her, it was a more personal
question - because what Gendo told Risuko would directly dictate how
the response, "Liar." was delivered. In the Red Cross Book (seiyuu
section), Yamaguchi writes:
Ritsuko fades away with her final word, "Liar."
But what was this "Liar" in reference to? The script for this last scene only has Gendo saying:
"Ritsuko Akagi, I truly...." followed by Ritsuko saying: "Liar (gets shot)". I can imagine many
words that might follow "I truly....", but I can't decide on any in particular. That is the complexity
of Gendou and Ritsuko's relationship.
From Ritsuko Akagi's inner feelings as a scientist, she could be considered a woman who blindly
gave her love to Gendou Ikari, and also a foolish woman that walked the same path as her mother
Naoko who committed suicide after being betrayed by Ikari. I personally wanted her to end as a
convenient, submissive woman who simply wanted to die righteously. But in the previous movie
(D&R) she ended as a deeply jealous woman filled with nothing but hatred toward Ikari.
Feeling unsatisfied with this, I looked for a way to accept her death at the hands of Ikari.
This made the interpretation of "Liar" very important. But the voice-over grew nearer and nearer....
Director Anno must have noticed how I felt. When it came time to do the voice-over, he showed me
a single, hidden hint at the last moment. With that one incredible hint, I, and Ritsuko Akagi, were
utterly defeated. It hardly needs saying, but Director Anno is incredible. Truly awesome -- a genius.
So Gendo does indeed have a line there. Gendo did tell Ritsuko
something, it's not simply a matter of Anno trying to be clever or
leave the audience wondering. What could Gendo have said? Many of
theorized it was simply, "I love/loved you." - but that seems too clean
and simple, too trite, for Anno to make such a big deal about
protecting the secret. Love is the obvious answer - and Gendo was never
obvious.
Personally, I'm (Brendan Jamieson) content in believing Gendo said, "Ritsuko Akagi, I truly... needed you."

случайно распахивает рубашку Аски и видит перед собой полуобнаженную
девушку, которая до этого непрестанно отвергала его. Его действия
продиктованы отчаянием и сексуальной неудовлетворенностью. Этот эпизод
добавляет важную черту к характеру Синдзи. + Синдзи реальный человек. Он не какой-нибудь благородный
супергерой, постоянно жертвующий собой – нет, он обычный человек. Он
видит сексуальный объект и реагирует на него. + Он испытывает значительный стресс. Он только что узнал, что
Рэй клон, Аска близка к смерти, Мисато, по-видимому, бросила его и,
кроме того, он только что убил единственного человека, которому открыл

Еще немного света на действия Синдзи проливает карточная игра Cardass Masters. Карта H-11 Hokan гласит следующее:

Yes. But before you jump to conclusions let me point out some things:
+ Shinji is completely messed up. He has hit rock bottom and when the
only person he feels can help him (Asuka) doesn't he sinks lower into
his depression (for obvious reasons). Then, he accidentally pulls open
Asuka's shirt and right there in front of him is a half naked girl, who
has shot down his advances time and time again. He reacts out of
desperation and sexual frustration. An important point has been made
about Shinji.
+ Shinji is real. Shinji is not some noble, self-sacrificing wiz-kid -
instead he is "normal". He sees sex, and he reacts to it.
+ He is under tremendous stress. He has just found out that Rei is a
clone, that Asuka is pretty much dead, that Misato seems to have
abandoned him, and above all else, he just killed the only person he
opened his heart up to and the only person who told Shinji, "I like
you". Look at all those things in Shinji's life that have happened in
little less than a week! It is easy to see why Shinji did what he did.
But do not be confused, Shinji quite clearly did not approve of what he
did, either.
+ Shinji does not enjoy it. He says "Saitei da, orette" (I am
pathetic/I am the lowest of the low/I am fucked up/I am the worst/I'm
scum etc.) and leaves Asuka more disgusted with himself then ever. This
is done to show that Shinji is not maliciously visually raping Asuka,
but that he is still a child who saw something he (thought) he liked,
and reacted to it. Do I hold it against him or do I think he's a bad
character because of it? No, of course not. Some people might be
shocked with that scene, but overall, it's a deeply emotional scene
that effectively conveyed Shinji's current mental condition.
A little more insight into Shinji's act is available in the Cardass
Masters card game (overseen by Gainax). Card H-11 Hokan reads:
"Neither Yui, Rei nor Misato could do as a woman for Shinji. Asuka
alone was the only girl on equal footing with him. So, Shinji
desired/sought after Asuka. "I'm afraid of Misato and Ayanami."
However, Shinji's crude affection only hurt her. In the end, he used
her as an object of lust/desire to soothe/console himself..."
I think Gainax solved this in a very smart way! :)

ума; позже она повесилась.
Мы узнаем о том, что душа матери Аски заключена в EVA-02, когда

под защитой (EoE).
Asuka's mother worked for NERV in one capacity or another. She was used
in an activation test, and apparently part of her soul was trapped in
Eva-02. What was left in her body went mad, and she hung herself.
We find out in The End of Evangelion that Asuka's mother's soul is
within Eva-02 when Asuka hears the voice that tells her not to die, and
that she will be protected.

She was one of the lead research developers on the evangelion series.
In an activation test, she was absorbed(much like Shinji was in the
series). Although they tried to save her using the same method as they
used to save Shinji, they were unsuccessful. We find out in The End of
Evangelion that Yui's soul has been trapped in Eva-01 all this time,
and that is why the unit acted on its own to protect Shinji. There is
also some debate about whether Yui allowed herself to be absorbed by
the eva on purpose.
